Recycled and Environmentally Friendly Paper

Recycled Paper

Trends have a major influence on the paper specifying market as fashion colours from the catwalk make their way through to the printed sheet and the latest green production techniques are utilised in the manufacturing process. The result is a dazzling array of options and a sheet for every need. So picking the right grade for the job depends on the impact required and the message the end user wants to convey - whether it be for letterheads, brochures or simple postcards. Of course its no surprise with environmentally conscious decision making affecting every step of the printing process, that market demand reflects this.

It is now generally accepted that FSC certified papers and boards make up 70% of paper sales. Recycled paper accounts for approx 20%, but grows year on year. Trends likely to impact in 2009 are carbon footprinting and waste minimisation, yet with the credit crunch hitting it remains to be seen whether price becomes the overiding factor - not sustainability.

FSC and PEFC certified options have been around for a number of years which is why FSC chain-of-custody certification now covers more than 90 million hectares of forestry in more than 70 countries and the PEFC scheme covers 85% of the world's forest area and is supported by 149 governments. FSC's growth in particular has been supported by NGOs, the government, councils, and charities as well as some FTSE100 companies.

At Print Buying Direct we aim to use FSC certified materials in all cases unless specified otherwise by our customers.
